Yes, yards are welcome to take advantage of two fully-funded visits per year. If additional training is sought, a contribution towards expenses may be required.
No, the training is inclusive and diverse to suit the needs of the whole team irrespective of age and experience.
No, although the National Horseracing College delivers the programme, all staff within the racing industry are supported. You do not need to be rerolled with or have an association with the British Racing School, the Scottish Racing Academy or the National Horseracing College. If you work for a BHA-licensed racing yard you qualify. Training requests from Point-to-Point yards are also welcome (funding dependent).
The training forms a blended learning approach using skills already gained and identifying further areas of skill development. A typical training day would include observing the riders exercise their morning lots (ideally two); video footage will be used to provide feedback between lots. After all lots have been exercised, the riders will take part in simulator coaching and fitness work. Written and video feedback concludes a session.
Coaching can include riding yearlings, stalls work and schooling and arena work.
Various considerations are made when pairing up a Racing Coach to a yard. After ascertaining the training needs the most suitable coach will be chosen. Typically, the coach will reside within a reasonable travelling distance and will have availability to attend within an agreed timeframe.
Coaches are qualified, attend continuing professional development and hold a Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
Records of progress are kept on an individual training log. In addition video footage is obtained and recorded. Records may be shared with other Racing Coaches subject to agreement and in line with GDPR.
Absolutely everyone is welcome, please let your coach know and the session will be tailored to your individual needs.
If you have at least one lot to ride before you set off for the races, then yes, you’re very welcome to take part. Whenever possible, please inform us in advance of the day so your coach can plan accordingly. If this isn’t possible, please let your coach know your availability when they arrive so they can organise their schedule.
